Question by bebe: taking “custody” of friends?
My boyfriend’s ex-wife is trying to make mutual friends of ours take sides!
I understand she is hurt about their break up and the fact he has moved on with his life while she is still in love with him – we’ve been respectfully giving her the space to deal with it, but I feel it is really unfair she is asking our friends to choose between her and us.
We’ve already had one social invitation taken back because she had already decided to go & the friend didn’t want things to be awkward and we were fine with that. The problem is that she is treating it as a victory and now trying to dictate what events we are or are not able to attend.
We are really happy together as a couple, but I can see the sympathy our friends have for the ex-wife as the one left alone is fast going to run out as she is a very needy person.
She is still trying to make my boyfriend feel guilty about leaving her and make him as miserable as she is- once the sympathy she is currently getting from friends runs out I’m afraid this is only going to get worse.
We want to try and keep things as friendly as possible for the sake of their children, but what can we say or do to make her realise that trying to claim ownership over mutual friends is the wrong thing to do??
Just for the record we did not cheat, our relationship didn’t start until after he broke up with her – she doesn’t have any reason to be angry at me or my boyfriend other than we make each other happy!

So, go make some new friends. Why would you want to be friends with people that are your boyfriends ex girlfriends friend. She knows what she’s doing (Trying To Get Under Your Skin & Back With Your Man Her Ex-Man) They are probably feeling in the middle. And they may be telling your business to the ex-girlfriend. Life is too short for drama…Free yourself of the worry and go meet and mingle with other couples.
